As the 4th Segment in Toronto’s Big 5 Bank series, we are at the Scotiabank Tower located at 40 King Street West.
$335 Million
Built in the 80s, a deliberate feature is its “Napoleon Red” granite to make the tower stand out in the skyline. This red granite was quarried in Sweden, polished in Italy then shipped to Canada. The cost to build? $335 million.
Can I Have a Corner Office? Probably.
The sawtooth shape of the building was also intentional to create more of those coveted “corner offices”. Instead of 8 per floor, Scotiabank boasts 22. Even though a different stone, the red tones flow to the exterior sidewalks and curbs around the entire block…as well as underground inside the PATH. So if you notice this distinctive red colour, you know you’re in the Scotiabank Plaza, even beneath the city.
Fun Fact
The original 1946 Bank of Nova Scotia is merged into the Scotia complex. To keep watching videos like these, subscribe to our youtube channel, follow us on instagram or get it all in one place at my-toronto.ca.
