Centre Island: The Surprisingly Peaceful Off-Season

-

Centre Island welcomes tens of thousands of visitors every year. With its beaches, views of the city, amusement rides, picnic areas, cycling and trails, it’s no wonder it’s flooded with tourists all summer long.

But when the season shifts and kids are back at school, it transforms into an adult’s tranquil playground with lots to appreciate.

From fountains and garden spaces to bridges, abandoned villages and uncrowded attractions, it’s a great space to reset and enjoy the beautiful autumn season in the city; a direct contrast to roller coaster rides, family picnics and crowds.

In the late 1800s, Toronto Island consisted mostly of Victorian summer homes with a thriving seasonal community, including a hotel and yacht club. Centre Island began its development into a recreational area into the 1900s.

This fall, take advantage of having it all to ourselves, remarking on the magnificent work that goes into this incredible park and its monuments.

For more information about closures and limits to amenities on the island, please visit the Toronto Islands (Destinations Ontario) website.
