This bright, happy fellow was a gift from Barcelos, Portugal. It stands 2.8 metres tall and unveiled in 2021.
Artist Julia Prajza chose bright colours to symbolize the energy and culture of the Portuguese culture, fostering a sense of community among Toronto’s Portuguese community.
Stemming from a legendary story where a dead rooster saved an innocent man from execution (how this happened, we can only insert our imagination here), this Galo de Barcelos is meant to inspire new beginnings, hope and optimism.
