Toronto is launching a new east west ferry that will take us across Lake Ontario’s waters and to three stops: Ookwemin Minising in the Port Lands by Biidaasige Park, Yonge Street Slip, and Billy Bishop Airport.
It’s a First!
This is the first time Toronto is connecting along the inner harbour shores. This pilot project launches this June and will run for a tested time of 3 years. A super cool way of navigating the city’s mainland by water, helping us bypass land-based traffic.
Small and Fast
The new vessels are unlike our current island ferries like this one: The future design will be smaller, faster, and more frequent. Quite the opposite compared to our high-volume, mass-transit, island ferry system we’re all used to.
And while the specific design of the pilot boats has not been finalized, they will carry 180 passengers, prioritizing speed and connection. How excited are you about this new transit along our waterfront?
Are You Pumped? And Should it Join TTC?
Let us know your thoughts on this new way to travel along the shore. Some have weighted in to say this should be part of the TTC Transit System. What are your thoughts?
