Did You Say $12.7 Million?
The East Don Trail Project has been an exciting expansion to witness…with $12.7 million being poured into multi-use trails that will soon connect Bermondsey Road continuously through to our Southern Waterfront Trails.
4-Level Cycling and Pedestrian Ramp
For now, the trail expansion leads to this very unique 4-level switch-back ramp system overlooking Flemingdon Park Golf Club. On top of stunning views overlooking the Valley, this system was designed to accommodate changes in elevation and provide accessible connections between the trails and bridges. It alone cost $3.8 million.
Now in its final phase, this whole project brings 33 kilometres of seamless cycling and hiking bliss weaving through the natural beauty of the Don Valley.
One Last Piece
That leads to one final obstacle…a tunnel to get us under the Metrolinx Rail. This section has been the roadblock for us to get from one side across to the other.
The tunnel will be the final connector between Bermondsey Road and the Lower Don Trail linking two very impressive natural lands expanding our trail system with massive reach throughout our city.
Take it All In
So what can you find along the way besides the 5 expansive bridges stretching over scenic rivers, waterwaysand lush valley terrain? These trails connect to many of our popular parks and creeks…and if you keep going…you won’t just end at Corktown Common, but continue all the way to beautiful Lake Ontario.
