Tips & Tricks
- Water taxis provide a much faster process than the ferry, including lineups, embarking, disembarking and total travel time
- The “Local’s Hack”: You don’t have to use the water taxi both ways. Use the ferry for free for your return trip.
- Pre-booking isn’t required.Simply walk up, buy a ticket, and hop on the next available boat.
- Taxis typically dock at the Centre Island marina, just a short walk from the beaches and Centreville Amusement Park. They also do drop-offs at Wards Island.
- Are water taxis open year-round? No.
- Standard water taxi service generally wraps up for the season at the end of October.
What happens if I miss the last taxi or ferry?
- You can call a water taxi company to try and book a custom ride back to the mainland, but you may be stuck for the night. With very limited hotels, you can try for a vacation rental online. If you have to wait out the night, try to get yourself under the ferry terminal canopy, bench or beach spot. If it’s an emergency, there is a fire station on the island and is open 24/7 for help. Don’t expecct a sleeping space, though.
