Will Broken Amsterdam Bridge Finally Be Fixed?

The footbridge over Simcoe Slip on Queens Quay has been closed since 2021, cutting off a popular waterfront crossing.

Aw, For Me?

The Bridge was a gift from the City of Amsterdam. In 1974 it was built overseas and brought here. With  the Wavedeck, boardwalks, marina activity, the Amsterdam Brewhouse and Queens Harbour in the area, the bridge is greatly missed.

Who Should Fix it?

Deemed unsafe and in strong need of repairs, the City of Toronto who owns the bridge, and Harbourfront Centre responsible for upkeep struggled to find the funds.

Enter FIFA World Cup; coming to Toronto this summer. So council approved $790,000 for repairs: $640 coming from the city, and $150 from Harbourfront Centre.

When?

Construction bids began this January. Fingers crossed, the bridge could reopen later this year.
