We recently moseyed into Cowboy’s Grill on a blustery, winter afternoon. The wind just sort of blew us in, as we were trying to get a break from the chill and setting our sites for a good burger.
Mesquite Hit Home
As we were welcomed inside the cozy setting of Cowboy’s Grill at 1993 Yonge Street, we were quickly seated and took in our surroundings. The smell of mesquite filled the space nestled under the wooden beamed ceiling and braided rope decor. It was western cuisine, yes, but in a chic and very stylish room.
After speaking with the owner, Sean, he pointed out his two most popular items and we took his word for it (watch the video below to see it in action). A mesquite-filled dome was presented to our table, lifted to reveal brisket, ribs, beef, sausages, wings served with a house barbecue sauce. As the smoke cleared, we dug in…along with my brandy peppercorn sauce burger. We had our work cut out for us.
Even though the food was phenomenal, it was the artistic vision in every detail of this place that was most impressive. From the coffee beans the owner ships from Vienna (custom roasted, of course), to the Sophia Loren mural upstairs that was brought over from Europe because the the ones sourced here “just didn’t capture the vibe” Sean intended. However, his intention was obvious. Every. Detail. Mattered.
“Drinks? I’ll Bring You Something Special.”
Hesitating on what drink to order, Sean insisted he bring us something he’ll make, just for us. He surprised us with a smoked whiskey cocktail:

While we visited the 1993 Yonge St location, there is a 2nd Cowboy’s Grill at 85 Kincort Street in North York. We look forward to visiting both.
