The Concrete Enigma on the Waterfront
Most people don’t spot the hidden message between what seems like abstract statue blocks along Queens Quay. Even to those walking in and through them, the secret meaning can easily get missed. These 1-storey pillars are actually puzzle pieces and, when aligned correctly, form a tribute to a great Canadian hero.
Decoding Toronto’s Most Inspiring Optical Illusion
Are you spotting it? We line them up in the video below, just right. The silhouette of our heroic Terry Fox on his Marathon of Hope appears. Through the gardens and at the very end of the path, you can meet the man himself.
Our Hero Cast in Bronze
A bronze, life-sized monument of Terry at 18 years old, before his diagnosis and amputation, stands looking forward toward the path. The Fox Family made sure the tribute honoured Terry correctly.
Where History and Art Intersect
Named “We Are Shaped by the Obstacles We Face,” and spearheaded by community art organizations, the piece has deep roots. Installed in 2023, the tribute is located at 439 Queens Quay West next to the Toronto Music Garden.
