Those Who Enter, Beware

There’s a quirky, weird fact in Toronto about this TTC streetcar entrance that is meant only for streetcars to enter underground and into the Queens Quay terminal. It started in 2018. Cars drive onto the tracks on Queens Quay by York Street.

Umm…Red Means Stop.

Despite signs and flashing lights, cars drive onto this prohibited lane, out of the vehicle lanes on either side. As you can see from the video below, it’s pretty tough to turn around down there.

City to the Rescue

For a fix, the city installed a barrier arm.  It’s bright, reflective, hard to miss. It mostly helps…. but even now, cars approach, creating this bizarre traffic trap. Some back out sheepishly, others need a tow.

Getaway Car Doesn’t Get Away

The most talked about incident was this past winter when a stolen car ignored all warnings, drove down the tunnel and got stuck. The 40-year-old driver ran on foot, but was caught and charged. This is an area locals have nicknamed “gate-gate”.
