Village of Yorkville Park has many strange yet amazing features. It’s like a live show of our country’s natural wonders, with the Canadian Shield stealing the spotlight as the main attraction. This park boasts a massive slab of rock that’s impossible to miss. As it turns out, a lot of thought went into this rock’s presence in our city.
For starters, this rock is roughly 1 billion years old. It comes from the Canadian Glacial Shield and had to be removed in pieces due to its immense size and weight.
In one piece, the rock weighs 650 tons. The crazy part is that it took 20 separate flatbed trucks just to transport the whole thing down to Yorkville. It was reassembled exactly how it was, though you can still see many seams where it had to be broken for transport.
