The Face of Our Financial District

-

Dreaming

If you’re walking through Toronto’s financial district, specifically Adelaide Street, you will happen along “Dreaming”: A sculpture created by Spanish artist, Jaume Plensa.

Installed in the fall of 2020, “Dreaming” carried with it a message of hope, courage and quiet contemplation despite the Covid crisis engulfing our city and the rest of the world.

“Dreaming” continues to carry a strong message through this girl, eyes closed, serving as a metaphor for humanity’s shared struggle and hopes for the future.

Plensa shares similar works of art in other public spaces across the world including Spain, France, Japan, England, Korea and Germany.

Wait…Is That Just Me or…

Nope…prepare to have your perception played with as you circle her polyester resin and marble dust.

The large 3-storey piece offers different angles. As it floats and changes shape, its shifting elevations offer a mesmerizing softness in contrast to the surrounding, towering skyscrapers.
