Within the perimeter of the Toronto Carpet Factory resides The Caffino Italian restaurant. Upon walking through its entryway, the atmosphere immediately nestles its patrons with its beautifully chique and rustic decor.
Wrought iron light fixtures, old world art and timely treasures tastefully reflect the room’s ability to subtly hint of treasured eras as you’re guided to your table. Mixed with some modern flair and it becomes an interesting blend of intrigue and style.
Don’t worry. We’ll get to the food, but the room itself continues to deserve our attention.
Original, factory brick walls under wooden rafters contrast so impressively with the artistically framed window arches, ornate draperies and crystal chandeliers. Chunky candle holders barely handle the weight of the layered wax dripping down their foundations, marking time itself.
Now, the food. (See? We’d get there.) The menu is traditionally Italian. Antipasti offer a full range from salads and calamari to polenta stuffed with sausage and gorgonzola. The main courses include fish, bistecca and pastas served perfectly al dente in signature sauces such as vodka-infused rose, marinara and slowly stewed meat sauce. The pizza is served honouring Italy herself with authentic tomato sauces and aromatic toppings such as fresh basil, grilled vegetables, prosciutto and oyster mushrooms.
It’s an eclectic crowd dining tonight, with employees from neighbouring studio and office spaces. The feel then gives way to families, friends and couples dining into the evening. The staff are very attentive to whether you’re in for a short meal or looking to linger over delicious cuisine.
However, paired with a bottle from their selected wine list, we note that Caffino is a special place to embrace the relaxed space and linger into your evening, savouring the time between each course and the art of Caffino’s good food; the way the Italian culture implores it to be.
